Hatta is the quiet, rocky corner of Dubai emirate. A van or mini coach with a driver takes the group there and back without anyone holding a map.
Your reference
Hatta sits in the Hajar mountains, east of Dubai city and close to the border with Oman. It is the place groups go when the programme already has enough glass towers. The landscape is rock, dry valley and a reservoir, and the pace is slower than anywhere in the city.
The usual stops are the Hatta Dam and its lake, the heritage village that shows older mountain life, and the hills around the Hatta area with viewpoints and trails. Which activities are open on a given day, what they cost and what age or fitness limits they have is for the venue to say. Check the organiser or venue for opening times, ticket rules and any seasonal closure before you promise anything to the group.
Prices depend on the date and group size. Get yours in a minute.
Get my priceThe drive is about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1.5 hours from most of Dubai, longer from Marina or Palm Jumeirah. Most of it is a fast, wide road across desert and then foothills, with a gentle climb as you reach the mountains. A coach handles it comfortably.
Two things surprise first time visitors. The road passes close to the Oman border and there is a short stretch where the route runs near that boundary, so every passenger should carry a valid passport or Emirates ID on the day. And the fuel and refreshment options thin out, so bring water for the group and plan a toilet stop before you leave the city side.
Entry rules change, and we do not give visa advice. For anything about crossing a border, check the official ICP and GDRFA sites. Our day trip stays within the UAE.
Hatta rewards smaller vehicles more than most trips, because the places you stop are at the end of narrower roads and the car parks are modest. A full size coach can do it, but a van or mini coach gets closer to the viewpoints and parks more easily.
| Group | Vehicle | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 13 | 13-seater van | Quick to park, easy loading, simple for a family party |
| 14 to 16 | Mercedes Sprinter | Higher roof, more legroom, bags fit at the back |
| 17 to 30 | Mini coach | Our usual choice for Hatta groups |
| 31 to 50 | 50-seater coach | Works on the main road, ask about the viewpoint you want |
Starting prices are on the price page for a full day within Dubai, for example the mini coach from AED 1,100 per day. Hatta is a longer run, so the written quote confirms the price for your date, route and hours.
This is an example. A mini coach takes 28 guests from two hotels in Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence.
The coach leaves at 08:00, takes about 1.5 hours to the area and gives the group a toilet stop on the way. The first hour at the dam and lake is the coolest part of the day. A late morning at the heritage village follows, then lunch at a restaurant the group leader has chosen. By 14:30 the group is back on the road, a good time to avoid the end of day traffic rejoining the city, and the first drop is around 16:30.
In summer the afternoons are hot even in the mountains, so move the whole day earlier. In the cooler months you can start later and stay for sunset, but the road home is in the dark and the driver will want the group on the coach by a fixed time.
A day outdoors needs proper preparation. Tell the group to wear closed shoes with grip. Hatta rock is loose and sandals do poorly. Sun hats, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle matter more than anything else you pack. Light layers are useful in winter evenings, when the mountain air cools quickly.
The coach keeps a cool cabin for the return, and we can have bottled water on board if you ask when you book. Mention anyone with limited mobility. The driver can place them close to the entrance and tell the group leader where the flat ground ends.
The group leader books any activity, agrees the meeting point and watches the clock. The driver drives, parks, keeps the coach cool and waits. We do not sell tickets, tours or entry passes, and we do not pick the activities for you.
A short briefing the day before helps. Send the group a message with the pick-up time, the coach description and the leader's mobile number. If there is an issue on the day, the leader calls the driver and the office, not the other way round.
Some groups add a stop on the way back, such as a lunch in a roadside town or an early evening in the city. We can include a second drop-off, but each addition shortens the Hatta time. A full day is already about 3 hours of driving.
If you want a quick comparison with other day trips, see our pages for Al Ain and Fujairah. For desert evenings, the desert safari group transport guide shows how pick-ups work. A single car and driver is a different product, covered on the Hatta car with driver page.
Send the date, the headcount, the pick-up addresses and the finish time you want, using the booking page. Tell us which stops you plan, so the quote includes the right waiting time. A fixed written quote arrives by email, usually within the hour, and shows the vehicle, the hours and what is included. Our guide to what is in a bus rental quote explains each line.

Quick answers for this trip.
About 1 hour 15 minutes to 1.5 hours by road, depending on where in Dubai you start and on traffic. From Marina or Palm Jumeirah it is longer.
Yes, on the main road. Narrower approach roads and small car parks may suit a mini coach better, so tell us which stops you plan and we advise.
The road passes close to the Oman border, so we suggest every passenger carries a valid passport or Emirates ID. We do not give visa advice. Check the official ICP and GDRFA sites.
Not always. Opening times, seasonal closures and activity rules are set by the venues. Check the organiser or venue for your date.

The cooler months, roughly October to April, are more comfortable outdoors. In summer, start early and plan for shade.
Yes. Waiting is part of the hours on your quote. The driver stays near the coach and returns to the meeting point at the time you set.
That is for the venue to say. Rules on swimming and activities vary, so check before you tell the group.
Options thin out beyond the city edge. Plan lunch in Hatta or bring packed food, and carry water for everyone.
