Sharjah is the nearest emirate to Dubai and the one most groups underestimate. The drive is short, but the day depends on the road, the clock and the calendar.
Your reference
Sharjah borders Dubai, and on a map it looks like a suburb. For a group it is a separate day with its own rules. Museums keep their own hours, souqs have their own rhythm, and the road between the two emirates is one of the busiest in the country.
That is good news for the budget, because the drive itself is short. It is also the reason groups get caught out: they plan five stops, then spend an hour of the day in traffic they did not expect. This page is about how to avoid that.
Prices depend on the date and group size. Get yours in a minute.
Get my priceThe drive from central Dubai to central Sharjah takes about 30 to 45 minutes outside rush hour. In the morning flow towards Dubai and the evening flow back to Sharjah, the same journey can take well over an hour. Our advice is simple. Leave Dubai after about 09:30, so the group is going against the strongest traffic, and leave Sharjah before 16:00 or after 19:30.
A group that sets a 17:30 departure from Sharjah should expect a slow ride and tell the guests so. Nothing is wrong when that happens. It is the commuter pattern between two big cities.
If your hotel is in Deira or Bur Dubai, you are closer. From Marina or Palm Jumeirah the drive is noticeably longer.
Opening hours in Sharjah can differ from Dubai. Friday timings, in particular, vary by venue, and some places open late or close for part of the day. Public holidays and the dates of Ramadan and Eid move every year. Check the organiser or venue for dates, opening hours and entry rules, and do it again a week before you travel.
We give you the vehicle and the driver, not the schedule of a museum. What we can do is look at your list and tell you which stops tend to sit well together, so the coach is not crossing the city twice.
Sharjah is known for its museums and its arts district. Groups use them for Islamic art, history, science for school parties and the old heritage buildings. Large groups usually need to tell the museum in advance. That is the group leader's job, and the museum may ask for a booking.
The old souqs are covered, air-conditioned in parts and good for an hour or two of browsing. They are also where groups lose people, so agree a meeting point, a time and a head count before the group breaks up.
A walk along the Khalid lagoon edge suits mixed ages and is easy on mobility. It also suits a late afternoon with shade.
Sharjah is more conservative than Dubai. Tell the group to dress modestly: covered shoulders and knees for men and women, and a light scarf is useful in some buildings. Alcohol is not sold in the emirate, and public behaviour rules are stricter, so brief the group before you leave Dubai, not at the museum door.
This is general guidance. Rules and customs can change, so check the venue or the emirate's official tourism information if you are unsure.
Short distance means the vehicle can be generous. A group of 14 to 16 fits comfortably in a Mercedes Sprinter. A group of 17 to 30 does well in the mini coach, and groups of 31 to 50 in a 50-seater coach. Smaller parties of up to 13 can use the 13-seater van.
Starting prices on the price page are for a full day within Dubai: for example the mini coach from AED 1,100 per day and the 50-seater from AED 1,450 per day. Sharjah is outside Dubai, so we confirm the exact price for your route, date and hours in a written quote. A simple airport pick-up in Sharjah is a different job, see the Dubai to Sharjah airport transfer page.
Here is how a school party might run, as an example only. One 50-seater coach leaves the school in Dubai at 09:30. Arrival at the first museum about 10:15. A guided hour, then a snack break. A second museum around noon. Lunch in a food court, then 45 minutes in the souq. Departure at 15:00, and back at the school by 16:15 with traffic in hand.
The driver waits at each stop, uses the coach drop areas and keeps the cabin cool. The teacher in charge counts heads on boarding. More ideas for school groups are on our school bus rental page, and the school trip cost guide shows how the numbers work.
Many overseas groups combine Sharjah with an evening back in Dubai, and some add an old Dubai walk the next morning. Our old Dubai group tour pairs well with a Sharjah day because both are about heritage and craft.
If you need to book several coaches for different days, put every day in one request. You get one quote with each day listed. Use the booking page or send the details on WhatsApp.
