A group day in Abu Dhabi looks simple on paper: leave Dubai in the morning, see the mosque, walk the Corniche, come back for dinner. In practice three choices decide whether the day runs smoothly. How many stops there will be. What time the group must be back in Dubai. And whether the vehicle goes home empty or stays with you all day.
Start with the stops, because every stop costs more time than people expect. A group of 40 does not step off a coach in two minutes. Count 10 to 15 minutes to unload and the same to reload, and add a toilet break for anyone travelling with children or older relatives. Three stops is a comfortable day. Five stops is a rushed one.
Then fix the return time. If the group has a dinner, a flight or a stage show in Dubai that evening, work backwards from that time and not forwards from the morning. The rest of this page does exactly that.
Prices depend on the date and group size. Get yours in a minute.
Get my priceDubai to Abu Dhabi takes about 1.5 hours by road in normal traffic, and it is a straight highway run with a coach. Dubai Marina or Downtown to the Grand Mosque is a little longer than a hotel on the Abu Dhabi side of the city would suggest, so we plan 1 hour 45 minutes for the first leg when the group is picking up from several places.
Traffic is the real variable. The morning flow into Abu Dhabi and the evening flow back towards Dubai are heavy on weekdays, and the highway can slow sharply near the Dubai and Sharjah side junctions at the end of a working day. A group that leaves Abu Dhabi at 16:30 can easily take two hours to reach Dubai. Leaving at 14:30 or after 19:00 is often calmer.
Friday needs its own thought. Many attractions and offices follow a shorter Friday, and the midday prayer changes opening and visiting hours at some places. Public holidays and Ramadan or Eid dates move from year to year. Check the organiser or venue for opening hours and entry rules for your exact date before you fix the programme. Our peak season guide explains which weeks are busiest.
This is an example, not a promise of timings. A group of 40 from Dubai Marina hotels, with two hotels as pick-up points:
| Time | What happens | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|
| 07:30 | Coach at hotel one, then hotel two | Driver, group leader counts heads |
| 09:15 | Leave the second hotel, motorway run | Driver |
| 11:00 | Arrive at the Grand Mosque drop zone | Group leader, visit time set by the mosque |
| 13:15 | Lunch near the Corniche | Group leader books the table |
| 15:00 | Corniche walk, then museum or palace stop | Group leader |
| 16:30 | Leave Abu Dhabi for Dubai | Driver, with a traffic allowance |
| 18:45 | Drop at both hotels | Driver |
A group this size fits in one 50-seater coach with room to spread out, or a mini coach if the number drops to 30 or fewer. The coach waits at each stop. You do not pay for a second vehicle and you do not look for a taxi at the end of a long day.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the stop most groups come for. It has a strict dress code for visitors, which covers covered shoulders and knees, long sleeves for some visitors and head coverings for women. Tell the group before the day, not on the coach. Opening hours, visiting slots and any group booking rules are set by the mosque, so check its official site for your date. See our Grand Mosque day trip page for the vehicle side in more detail.
The Corniche is easy: a long waterfront promenade, flat, with cafes and shade at intervals. It suits mixed-age groups well. A museum or palace stop is optional, and the same rule applies. Check the organiser or venue for opening hours, ticket rules and any restrictions on large groups. We do not sell tickets, so the group leader or the tour operator books those.
If your plan includes a second cultural stop, tell us the order. The driver then knows which drop zone to use for each, and where the coach can wait without blocking a bus lane.
The most common mistake on this trip is a tight return. A group has a 20:00 dinner in Dubai, leaves Abu Dhabi at 17:30 and arrives at 20:15 after traffic. Nothing went wrong. The plan had no room for anything to go wrong.
We suggest a buffer of 45 to 60 minutes between the planned arrival and any fixed commitment. If the group must be on time, say so when you ask for the quote, and the driver will keep the departure from Abu Dhabi earlier than the group would like. It is easier to sit on a Corniche bench for 20 minutes than to apologise to a restaurant.
Also decide who is the single decision maker on the day. When forty people want one more photograph, the driver needs one person to say "we leave now".
A day trip needs little luggage, so seats decide. Here is how we usually size it.
| Group | Vehicle | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| 13 or fewer | 13-seater van | From AED 900 per day |
| 14 to 16 | Mercedes Sprinter | From AED 2,450 per day |
| 17 to 30 | Mini coach | From AED 1,100 per day |
| 31 to 50 | 50-seater coach | From AED 1,450 per day |
| 51 to 100 | Two coaches, or a coach and a mini coach | Quoted together |
These starting prices are for a full day of up to 10 hours within Dubai with driver and fuel, as shown on the price page. An Abu Dhabi day covers more kilometres and often more hours, so the quote sets its own price for your date, route and hours. Ask for a fixed written quote and you will see tolls, parking and waiting time listed.
Salik tolls apply on the Dubai side and our toll guide explains how they appear on a quote. Parking at the mosque and at the Corniche is usually arranged by the driver using the coach areas. If a venue charges a coach entry fee, the quote says so.
Before the day you can also ask us for a driver who has done the route recently. We assign the driver and send the name before the trip, so the group leader can share it with the group.
If a day feels short, there are two common upgrades. One is an overnight in Abu Dhabi, so the group sees the mosque at sunset and the Louvre the next morning without a late drive. The other is a two-vehicle plan: one coach for the group, a V-Class for the organiser or for anyone who needs to leave early. Both go on one quote.
For a business group that needs only a few hours in Abu Dhabi, our same day business trip guide is the better fit. For a transfer with no sightseeing, see Abu Dhabi transfers.
Send the date, the headcount, every pick-up address, the places you want to visit and the time the group must be back. The booking page takes all of that in one form. The written quote usually comes by email within the hour and names the vehicle, the hours and what is included. Nothing is charged until you confirm. Changes and cancellations follow the terms on your quote.

Quick answers for this trip.
About 1.5 hours each way in normal traffic. Plan 1 hour 45 minutes if you pick up from several hotels, and add time for weekday rush hours and Friday afternoons.
Yes. The coach and driver stay with the group all day, wait at each stop and drive back to Dubai. The quote lists the hours and the stops so you can see what is covered.
Starting prices for a full day within Dubai begin at AED 1,100 for a mini coach and AED 1,450 for a 50-seater. An Abu Dhabi day has longer hours, so we confirm the exact price for your date, route and hours in a written quote.
Yes. The driver uses the coach drop zone, waits in the permitted area and returns to the pick-up point at the time you set. Visiting rules and hours are set by the mosque, so check the official site.
It can be, but opening hours and prayer times change the day. Check the organiser or venue for your exact date, and keep a bigger return buffer.
Modest clothing for the mosque, with covered shoulders and knees. Light layers help, because coaches and museums are cool and the Corniche is not.
No. We are a transport company with drivers. The group leader or tour operator books any tickets and checks the entry rules.
Send the addresses and we quote that start. The drive time changes, and so does the price.
As soon as dates and numbers are firm. In the cooler months, roughly October to April, two weeks or more is sensible for coaches.
