Seventeen to thirty, one coach or two?
This is the band where the choice is real. One mini coach keeps everyone together. Two vans or Sprinters can be easier to place and to split. The seats and the suitcases decide, and the seat count has a catch.

Where the choice sits
Below 17 people a van or a Sprinter is the tool. Above 30 it is the coach. Between the two, a 30-seater mini coach competes with two smaller vehicles, and our own advice depends on the group. For 18 people we would usually send the mini coach rather than two vans: one driver, one arrival time and one announcement about when to be back.
The mini coach is a Toyota Coaster or similar. It has reclining seats, air-conditioning throughout, overhead and rear luggage space and a PA microphone on request. It also fits hotel driveways, villa streets and venue gates where a 50-seater cannot turn. Our guide to HiAce, Sprinter, Coaster and 50-seater sets all four side by side.

Get a quoteThe catch: 22 to 30 seats
We list the mini coach as 22 to 30 seats, and the seat count on your quote depends on the vehicle assigned. A group of 24 will not fit if the coach on the quote has 22 seats. That sounds obvious until it is the night before.
So tell us the real headcount, including the tour leader, the guide, the photographer and the person who joins at the second hotel. Ask the quote to state the number of seats. If you are 25 or more, say so in the first message and we confirm a coach of that size.
Seats are passenger seats and the driver is not counted. Bags are medium suitcases, roughly 65 to 70 cm tall, and the mini coach carries about 20.
26 people, 26 suitcases: five ways to carry them
This is the hard case for the band. The people fit in more than one way. The suitcases are what split the options.
| Option | Seats | Bags | Against 26 people and 26 cases |
|---|---|---|---|
| One mini coach | 22 to 30 | About 20 | Only if the quote shows 26 or more seats. Six cases over |
| Two 13-seater vans | 26 | About 20 | Seats exact. Six cases over |
| 13-seater van and a Sprinter | 29 | About 22 | Seats fit. Four cases over |
| Two Sprinters | 32 | About 24 | Seats fit. Two cases over |
| One 50-seater coach | 50 | About 50 | Everything fits, many empty seats |
None of the first four swallows a case each. Two vans carry exactly what the coach does, which is the surprise: the coach is not worse on bags, it just does not win them. The honest fixes are a separate luggage vehicle that leaves with the group, or the 50-seater coach even though half its seats stay empty.
Now take 18 people with 18 cases. The mini coach fits everyone with two bag places spare, and two vans would carry the same. This is where the mini coach is simply the easier answer.
One mini coach or two vehicles: the rule
Start with the mini coach and ask what would make it the wrong choice. There are three answers.
- The hotels are far apart. Two vehicles collecting from two places at the same time and meeting at the venue is often faster than one long loop.
- The place cannot take a coach. Some villa communities and gates will not let a large vehicle in. The mini coach is smaller than a full coach, but ask the venue.
- The programme splits after lunch. One half goes shopping and the other on a tour, and two vehicles can leave at different times.
If none of those apply, one mini coach wins on simplicity. If one or more do, two vehicles win, and the table above tells you which pair carries your bags. Allow around ten minutes per pick-up without luggage and fifteen to twenty when suitcases go into the holds. Two vehicles each make their own stops, so a group split across three hotels gains time only if the vehicles run in parallel rather than one after the other. If you cannot decide, send the headcount and the pick-up addresses and ask us to quote both on one request.
Who books this size
Wedding guest shuttles, team outings, family reunions and school or club groups make up most of it. For weddings, see how guest loops are run on the wedding and event transport page. For squads with kit, our sports team transport guide has the bag arithmetic for teams, and the school trip bus rental page covers supervision.
For a desert evening, the mini coach is our usual pick because it is narrower than a full coach and easier to turn in a camp car park. Ask the camp in writing whether a coach of this size can reach the entrance. The desert safari group transport guide has the questions.
Landing with 17 to 30 people
A party this size does not leave the airport in one minute. Immigration queues are shared and bags come off the belt in no particular order. Our big group arrival guide suggests allowing 60 to 90 minutes from landing to the vehicle for a large group, and 15 minutes or so between the meeting point and the coach pulling away.
If two flights land more than two hours apart, we suggest sending the first group on and bringing the second separately. The group airport transfer page explains split arrivals. Pre-booked vehicles generally cannot wait at the arrivals kerb, and your confirmation says where the group will be met.
Asking for a quote
Use the booking page. Give the headcount including leaders, the suitcase count with anything oversized, the hotels and the days. We reply with a fixed written quote naming the vehicle and the number of seats. If you want both choices priced, say so.

Frequently asked.
Quick answers for this trip.
Is a mini coach better than two vans for 20 people?
For one hotel and one programme, usually yes. One driver and one arrival time is simpler. Two vans win when the hotels are far apart or the programme splits.
How many seats does your mini coach have?
It is 22 to 30 seats, depending on the vehicle assigned. Ask for the number on your quote, especially for a party of 25 or more.
How many suitcases does the mini coach take?
About 20 medium suitcases. A group of 26 with a case each will need a luggage vehicle or the 50-seater.
Do two vans carry more than one mini coach?
Two 13-seater vans seat 26 and carry about 20 bags, the same bag figure as the mini coach. A van and a Sprinter carry about 22, and two Sprinters about 24.
Can the mini coach get into a villa community or hotel entrance?
It fits driveways, villa streets and gates where a 50-seater cannot. Some places still restrict large vehicles, so we confirm with the venue before the day.
What if we are 31?
Thirty-one is one over the mini coach and the 50-seater coach takes over.
Does the mini coach have a microphone?
A PA microphone can be fitted on request, which is useful if you have a host or a guide.
How much does it cost?
Ask for a fixed written quote. It depends on the date, the route and the hours, and we put it in writing before you accept.
