JBR on New Year’s Eve, plan the walk.

Last year, JBR was reported closed to private vehicles from 4pm on 31 December. The Marina, JBR and Bluewaters sit side by side, so a hotel here can mean a long evening on foot. Here is what happened in 2025 and how to plan around it.

What was reported for JBR last year

We have no notice for 31 December 2026. Dubai’s road, Metro and parking arrangements for that night have not been issued, and last year’s were published only in the last week of December. What we have is what Gulf News reported, quoting the RTA, about the night of 31 December 2025. Read it as a pattern, not as this year’s rule.

  • JBR was closed to all private vehicles from 4pm and treated as an exclusive pedestrian zone.
  • Only official taxis were permitted on the main road.
  • Between 11pm and 1am, e-hail cars and limousines were also barred from the main JBR thoroughfare.
  • Access to Bluewaters Island was monitored and blocked when it reached capacity.
  • Three Metro stations were within walking distance of JBR.

The Dubai Media Office release of 26 December 2025 added that public beaches were designated for families only and that 14 public parks stayed open until 1am, across Dubai. They are rules for a single night in the past, and 2026 may differ.

The reports do not say whether private coaches or minibuses were allowed in. We could not find that anywhere, so we make no claim about it.

The Marina, JBR and Bluewaters are one walking area

The three places are next to each other. By car, the move between the Marina and JBR is a minute or two, and The Beach at JBR and Bluewaters are on the same stretch of coast. On foot, many visitors treat them as one district.

That matters on a closure night. If the main JBR road is closed from the late afternoon, a dinner at one end and a hotel at the other turns into a walk. Plan the evening so that the long walk is at the start, not at 1am when the group is tired and the Metro is crowded.

It also helps to know what a vehicle can reach. If a vehicle cannot enter JBR, the group needs a meeting point outside the closed area. We fix that point with you in writing before the day, not on the night.

The public options first

For one or two people, the public options usually win, and a group should look at them before a private vehicle.

  • Metro: three stations were reported within walking distance of JBR, and last year the Metro and Tram ran for 43 hours without a break. Check the RTA site for this year’s hours.
  • Walking: a group with no luggage can walk to the nearest station, if the Metro runs as it did last year.
  • Taxi: last year, official taxis were allowed on the main JBR road while private cars were not. Between 11pm and 1am e-hail cars and limousines were not. No one can promise a car at midnight.
  • Organiser information: the RTA, the Dubai Media Office and Emaar publish the New Year’s Eve notices.

Beyond the Metro, free shuttle buses ran last year between celebration areas, Metro stations, taxi ranks and car parks, as reported by Khaleej Times and Gulf News. We are not part of those shuttles.

Where a private vehicle fits

We are Dubai Bus Services, a private company. We are not an organiser’s or the RTA’s transport provider, and the service here is separate from any public or free shuttle. We do not sell tickets or entry to any event.

A booked vehicle suits the group that wants to leave the district together, for dinner in Downtown or a hotel elsewhere in Dubai, before the closures begin, or one that wants to be collected from a fixed point outside the closed area afterwards. Large families, a wedding party, a company dinner and a tour group all fit this pattern.

The V-Class suits a small party. The 13-seater van and the Mercedes Sprinter suit a family or friends group. A larger party fits the 30-seater mini coach or the 50-seater coach. If you want one driver for the evening, the hourly chauffeur page explains how that is booked.

Modelled times from the Marina side

These figures are a free-flow model with no traffic and no closures, rounded to ranges. Allow much more on the night. They show distance, not a promise.

A short drive can take much longer on a closure night, because roads fill early and some close.

A simple plan for a Marina or JBR hotel

1. Decide where midnight is spent before you book dinner. A Downtown view needs a Downtown plan.

2. Leave the Marina side before the first closure if you are going elsewhere. Last year the JBR closure started at 4pm.

3. Fix one pick-up point for the return that sits outside any closure, and name a back-up.

4. Keep the group small enough to walk together to the Metro if the vehicle is late. Know the walk to your nearest station.

5. Remember that Friday 1 January 2027 is a public holiday. If you leave Dubai that day, our airport transfer page covers the airport leg.

December is peak season, and larger vehicles go first. Our New Year’s Eve with a group guide covers the evening in general terms.
