31 December

New Year’s Eve in Dubai, with a group.

Getting a group to the fireworks is the easy half. The hard half is the road closures before midnight and the queue for vehicles after it. Plan both, and the night works.

The short answer: arrive early, collect late, meet outside the closures

For a group on New Year’s Eve in Dubai, book a vehicle with a driver for the whole evening, not two separate trips. Agree a drop-off point before the roads close, a fixed pick-up point well outside the closed zone, and a pick-up time that allows for the crowd to thin first. Everything else in this guide is detail on those three decisions.

The reason is simple. Around the busiest viewing areas, and Downtown above all, roads close in stages from the afternoon. Once they close, a vehicle cannot reach the door. A driver who already knows the plan can still drop you at the right edge, wait nearby and be on the right side of the barrier when you walk back at half past midnight.

Where groups go, and what each area means for transport

Downtown Dubai around the Burj Khalifa is the famous one, and the most restricted. Expect closures, security checks and a long walk from wherever the vehicle can stop. Other areas draw big crowds too: the Palm Jumeirah around Atlantis, the Marina and JBR waterfront, the Burj Al Arab area, Global Village on the dates it is open, and the resorts and hotels that run their own parties with their own displays.

The authorities announce closures, parking arrangements and extra Metro hours in the days before 31 December, and the details differ from year to year. We do not guess at them here. Check the official announcements from the Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Police, and send us what they publish so the plan matches it.

A hotel dinner or a private party is a different problem. Vehicles are usually allowed to the hotel entrance, so the question becomes timing, not access. Ask the venue for its arrival window and its car park rules.

A timeline that works

  1. Late afternoon: depart early for the main viewing areas. Allow far more time than normal for the last stretch, and expect to walk some of it.
  2. Drop-off: at the last point the driver is allowed to reach, agreed in advance. Photograph the spot on your phone and share the location pin with everyone.
  3. Evening: the driver parks or waits where we agreed, away from the closures. Keep one named person with a phone for the driver to call.
  4. After midnight: do not try to leave in the first 30 to 45 minutes. The crowd moves at walking pace. Walk to the pick-up point, have a drink, and meet the vehicle when the pavement thins.
  5. Return: the drive home is usually quicker than the walk to the vehicle.

The most common mistake is a pick-up time set for 12:15. Nobody reaches the vehicle by 12:15. Plan for 1:00 or later and tell your guests that now, not at midnight.

Choosing the vehicle

One vehicle for the whole group is better than several small ones, because everyone arrives and leaves together and there is one phone number to call. For up to seven, the Mercedes V-Class works. For 8 to 13, the 13-seater van. For up to 16, the Mercedes Sprinter, and the Sprinter in a VIP layout is more comfortable for a long night. Groups of 17 to 30 fit the 30-seater mini coach, and up to 50 the 50-seater coach.

A big coach cannot always reach the same drop-off point as a van. If your group is large, a mini coach or two vans may get closer to the entrance than one full-size coach. Tell us the venue and we will say which is realistic.

Day rates for reference, for a full day up to 10 hours with driver and fuel: 13-seater van from AED 900, Sprinter from AED 2,450, 30-seater mini coach from AED 1,100 and 50-seater coach from AED 1,450. A New Year’s Eve booking is quoted for the hours you need, and the written quote lists the hours and the terms for that date.

Three examples

Example one: 11 colleagues and partners, dinner at a hotel in Downtown, then the fireworks from the hotel terrace. A 13-seater van collects from the office at 5 pm, drops at the hotel entrance, and returns at 1 am. Roads close around the hotel, so the pick-up is on a side street the hotel manager confirms.

Example two: a family group of 24 staying in Dubai Marina, watching from the waterfront. The 30-seater mini coach collects them from the hotel after dinner, drops them on the nearest open road, waits away from the crowd and brings them back at 1:30 am.

Example three: a wedding anniversary party of 40 with a private dinner in Jumeirah. A 50-seater coach for the guests, plus a luxury SUV or two for the hosts. See our event transport page for how we combine vehicles on one quote.

Practical points for the night

Tell guests to carry a phone with a full battery, a power bank and ID. Mobile networks are slow in a crowd, so agree a meeting point in words, with a pin as the backup. Children and older relatives do better with a clear seat reserved on the way back; tell us about prams, wheelchairs or walking difficulty in advance.

Tolls on the route are listed on the quote; see Salik and Darb tolls explained. If you are thinking of a night away, a transfer to Ras Al Khaimah for its own display is a long drive after midnight, so ask us about timings before you book. For parties on wheels, see party bus rental.

How to book

Send the form on our booking page with your mobile number, the venue or viewing area, the number of guests and the hours you want, or message us on WhatsApp at +971 54 126 1681. A written quote follows by email. Confirm only when the plan matches the official closures once they are announced.

Frequently asked.

Quick answers for this trip.

Can a coach drive to the Burj Khalifa on New Year’s Eve?

Not all the way. Roads around Downtown close in stages from the afternoon, so the driver drops you at the closest open point agreed in advance and waits outside the closed zone.

When should we book a vehicle for New Year’s Eve in Dubai?

As soon as your group and venue are fixed. It is one of the busiest nights for hired vehicles, so a booking made weeks ahead has a better choice of vehicle and timing.

What time should we ask the driver to collect us after midnight?

Plan for 1:00 am or later. Leaving in the first 30 to 45 minutes means walking in a slow crowd and meeting a vehicle that cannot get close.

Where do the road closures happen?

They are announced by the Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Police shortly before the night and change by year. Send us what they publish and we plan around it.

Can one vehicle take us to two places in one night?

Yes, for example a dinner and then a viewing area. List both stops and the times on the booking so the hours on the quote are right.

Is the Metro a better option than a coach?

For one or two people it can be. For a group, with children or older relatives, a single vehicle on a fixed plan is easier. Metro hours are also announced for the night, so check them.

Do you need a deposit or payment on the night?

The terms are on your written quote. Nothing is charged until you confirm it.

Can you take a group to a hotel party outside Dubai?

Yes, for example to another emirate. The drive after midnight is long and busy, so give us the destination and we will tell you the realistic timing.
