Airport to the Sevens, one vehicle.

Most rugby groups land on Thursday 26 or Friday 27 November with suitcases, flags and a ticket they have not yet opened in the app. The stadium is a short drive from the airport on a map and a longer day in practice. Here is how a pre-booked vehicle fits between the arrivals hall, the hotel and the gate.

Two airports, one stadium

The Sevens Stadium sits on the E66 Dubai to Al Ain road. Two airports serve most visitors. Dubai International (DXB) is the busy one, with three terminals. Al Maktoum International (DWC) is the smaller airport in Dubai South, on the far side of the city from DXB.

The organisers’ travel page gives 28 minutes from DXB. The stadium’s own site says 30 minutes from DXB and about 30 minutes by car from DWC. The organisers also describe the venue as roughly 20 minutes outside central Dubai, so their own numbers do not quite agree. Treat all of them as quiet-road figures. On a routing tool the road distance from either airport comes out at roughly 40 km, which is approximate, without traffic, and Google Maps on the day will differ.

On event days the roads fill up. In 2024 the RTA warned of delays on the Dubai to Al Ain road on the festival days, and we have not found a 2026 notice yet, so check rta.ae nearer the date. Our advice is to plan the airport run with room to spare and never to link it to a tight check-in or a kick-off.

Landing on Thursday or Friday

Friday 27 November is a real day of rugby this year. The organisers say HSBC SVNS 3 starts on Pitch 1 on the Friday, and the ticket page lists local and invitational rugby, youth finals and a Family Friday programme. So a group landing on Friday morning may want to be at the stadium that afternoon. A group landing on Thursday has a quiet day to settle in first.

We could not find gate opening times on any organiser page, so we do not quote them. Last entry is 8pm. Anyone who leaves can come back before 9pm with their digital ticket, but nobody gets in after that.

Bags: the stadium has nowhere to put them

The organisers say there are no lockers. A backpack is allowed, but it is scanned, and there are separate bag lanes at the entrance. A suitcase is not a day-out item. That settles the order of the day: airport, hotel, drop the cases, then stadium.

If a group lands at lunchtime and the hotel is thirty minutes in the wrong direction, say so when you book. We can quote the hotel stop as a leg of the same trip, so the bags are off the vehicle before it heads out. Whether a coach can wait near the gate, with luggage left on board, is not something we assume. We agree the drop-off and the collection point with you and check the organiser’s current notice.

Terminals, flights and who meets you

DXB has Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and groups on different airlines often land in different ones. Send us every flight number on the booking. We track the flights, so an early landing or a two-hour delay moves the pick-up and not your afternoon. The driver waits in arrivals with a board showing the group name and walks everyone to the vehicle.

DWC has one terminal, and its arrivals hall is calmer. Check the airport code on every ticket, because DXB and DWC are far apart and a group that lands at both needs two vehicles. Our DWC transfer page covers that airport, and the guide to reaching your hotel from DXB explains the meeting point. A larger party that arrives in a stream should read the big group arrival guide.

What the driver does on a rugby weekend

  • Meets the group in arrivals and loads the bags.
  • Takes the group to the hotel, or to the stadium if you have asked for that and the bags are sorted.
  • Drops at the point we agreed with you, and tells the group where the return pick-up will be.
  • Messages the group leader when the vehicle is in position for the way home.

The driver cannot open the gate. Tickets live in the event app wallet, printed tickets are not accepted and screenshots do not scan. Ask everyone to log in to the app at the hotel and not at the kerb with a queue behind them.

The trip back on Sunday night

The Sunday finals start at 19:35, and the trophy presentation follows in the evening. A group that books a late Sunday flight and plans to watch the finals first is asking for trouble. Keep the last day clear, or collect the group before the finals and accept missing them.

The free festival buses leave from the stadium between 7pm and 1.30am, every 15 minutes. They stop at DMCC Metro in JLT, Sports City, Studio City, Financial Centre Metro in DIFC and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium. None of the five is an airport, so a flight home needs its own plan. A common choice is a Monday morning flight with the vehicle booked from the hotel the night before.

Read the group’s flight time back as a deadline. Work from the departure, add the airline’s check-in guidance, add the drive from the hotel, and the hotel pick-up time falls out.

Which vehicle

Up to seven people fit a Mercedes V-Class. A club of around ten takes the 13-seater van. A tour group of 20 to 30 fits a 30-seater mini coach, which also suits hotel forecourts a full coach cannot enter. Two travellers on a quiet arrival are better served by the airport chauffeur service. Groups landing at either airport can read about group airport transfers.

We are not an official transport provider for the event. Other companies sell the organisers’ own packages. We provide a vehicle, a driver and fuel, and the quote is a fixed written quote you can compare. For the rest of the weekend, see our group transport guide for the festival.

Booking

Send the flight numbers, the passenger count, the number of bags, the hotel and the days you will attend through the booking page. Ask for a fixed written quote that shows the airport run and the stadium run as separate lines. Late November is peak season, so ask early.

Frequently asked.

Quick answers for this trip.

How far is The Sevens Stadium from Dubai airport?

The organisers give 28 minutes from DXB and the stadium’s own site gives 30. DWC is about 30 minutes by car on the stadium’s figures. These are off-peak times, so allow more on the festival days.

Can I go from the airport straight to the stadium?

You can, but the stadium has no lockers and a suitcase will not get through the bag lanes. Most groups go to the hotel first. If you want the stadium first, tell us and we plan where the bags stay. See the group transport guide for how a vehicle fits the day.

Which terminal does my driver meet me in?

Send the flight number and we look up the terminal at DXB. The driver waits in arrivals with a name board. DWC has one terminal.

Is there a Metro or a free bus from the airport to the stadium?

We found neither. The organisers list free buses leaving the stadium to five points in Dubai, and they name Metro stations only as bus stops. Read the taxi against private transfer guide for the airport end.

What if my flight is late?

We track the flight and the pick-up moves with it. Tell the driver if you are held at immigration. The airport transfer page explains the waiting allowance.

Can the driver wait at the stadium while we watch?

That depends on the arrangements for coaches that day, which we have not seen. We agree a drop-off and a collection point with you and check the organiser’s current notice.

What should I do about my flight home?

Leave the Sunday night clear. The finals start at 19:35 and the buses do not go to an airport. A Monday departure with a booked hotel pick-up is simpler.

Do you sell tickets for the 7s?

No. Tickets are digital and come from the organisers or an authorised seller. We provide the vehicle, the driver and fuel. Ask us for airport chauffeur quotes if it is just two of you.
