Event guide

From DXB to Expo City, the GITEX arrival.

Most overseas delegates land at Dubai International and the Expo is on the far side of the city. The organiser gives its own journey times and the Red Line ends at the venue. This page explains the options, then where a named driver in arrivals fits.

The short version

The GITEX Global Expo runs from Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 December 2026 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), Expo City Dubai. The Summit on Monday 7 December is a separate day at Dubai World Trade Centre. If you land for the Summit, the airport is much closer: the organiser gives about 15 minutes by taxi and about 20 by Metro from DXB to DWTC.

For the Expo, the organiser’s own figures from DXB are about 30 minutes by taxi and about 45 minutes by Metro. The venue’s visitor guidance gives 35 to 45 minutes by road depending on traffic. Our own planning figure, which sits above both, is approximately 35 to 50 minutes outside peak times. Allow more on show days and when you land in a rush hour.

We are not the organiser’s transport provider and we do not sell tickets. If you have not registered, do it on the organiser’s own site, gitex.com.

Option one: Metro from the airport

The Red Line serves Expo 2020 Station, which is the end of the Red Line extension and connected to the venue. The organiser puts the walk from the station to the exhibition centre at approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Its platform tip matters if you are new to the line: two Red Line trains may arrive at the same platform, so take the one going to Expo 2020.

You need a Nol card. The organiser recommends a Silver or Gold card for several days and a Red Ticket for one-way or day travel. The Metro is a good choice for one traveller with a cabin bag and a morning to spare. It is less comfortable with two large cases, a laptop bag and a jacket after a long flight, and a last train can leave before a late finish, so check the RTA timetable.

Option two: taxi or ride-hailing

Taxis and ride-hailing apps work from the arrivals halls. At the Expo, the venue’s guidance puts taxi and car drop-off at a designated area on Boulevard 2020 Street, and the organiser says Careem and Uber operate around the clock at both venues. This is the simplest answer for one or two people, arriving once, without a schedule. Our taxi, Uber and private transfer comparison sets out the differences for groups.

Option three: a private pick-up with a named driver

A private pick-up means a driver waits in arrivals with your name on a board, tracks your flight and drives you to the hotel or to the venue. It is booked in advance with a fixed written quote. The airport also lists its own marhaba meet and greet service in Terminals 1 and 3, with fast-track immigration and baggage help. That is a separate service run by the airport. Ours is the driver and the vehicle.

This option suits a team that lands together and wants to stay together. A taxi queue after a long-haul flight splits a group into three cars and three arrival times. One 13-seater van or Mercedes Sprinter avoids that. A senior delegate who wants quiet and a clear handover can take a V-Class or an executive sedan. For a big delegation, see our big group arrival guide.

Hotel first or venue first

Most visitors should go to the hotel first. Cases do not belong on a show floor, and a hotel check-in is easier before a crowd arrives at the venue. A hotel near Expo City changes the maths. The venue lists three places within walking distance of DEC: Expo Village Serviced Apartments, Rove Expo City and Cheval Maison Expo City Dubai. Staying there makes the arrival simple, and our driver takes you to the door of the hotel.

A venue-first arrival is rare, but it happens: a speaker, an exhibitor with kit, or a buyer who lands in time for a meeting that cannot move. Tell us before the day. We do not know whether a van or coach may enter the South Drop-Off or the Transportation Hub, because the organiser has not published a rule for private hire vehicles. We confirm the drop-off point against its access plan before the day and we do not guess.

If your hotel is in the Marina or Downtown, the transfer is first to the hotel and then, on the show day, a second run to the venue. See the airport to hotel guide and our Expo City page.

Bags, flights and the second airport

Tell us the number of people, the number of large cases and any display material or boxes. A 13-seater with ten passengers carries less luggage than ten people want to bring, so we size the vehicle on the bags as well as the seats. Send every flight number if the group is split across flights. We track the flights and move the pick-up if one lands early or late.

DXB is the primary airport for most international visitors. Al Maktoum International (DWC) is in Dubai South, close to Expo City, but it has limited commercial flights. By road, DWC to Expo City is roughly 20 to 28 minutes, which is longer than the map distance suggests because of the access roads. Check the airport code printed on your ticket. Our Al Maktoum transfer page covers that airport.

Entry rules depend on your passport. Check the official UAE government visa page and the organiser’s visa section before you book. We do not give visa advice.

The return to DXB

The way back is the leg people forget. The Expo ends on Friday 11 December and the organiser lists opening hours of 10:00 to 5:00 for the Expo, so check gitex.com for the day. Give yourself more time than you would at the start of the week, because the road from Expo City to DXB is the same long run in reverse. We agree the pick-up point, the time and the buffer for the flight when we write the quote.

If you need a vehicle for the whole week, a single booking is easier than separate runs. The airport transfer page explains how a fixed written quote lists the airport parking and waiting time. Book early: the week is part of peak season.

Frequently asked.

Quick answers for this trip.

How far is Expo City from Dubai International?

Approximately 35 to 50 minutes by road outside peak times. The organiser quotes about 30 minutes by taxi and about 45 by Metro. Allow more on show days.

Can I take the Metro from DXB to the Expo?

Yes. The Red Line ends at Expo 2020 Station, and the organiser gives a walk of approximately 5 to 10 minutes from there to the venue. Check the RTA timetable for the last train.

Will a driver meet me in arrivals?

Yes. The driver waits with a name board and tracks your flight. The airport’s own meet and greet, with fast-track immigration, is a separate service that you book with the airport.

Should we go to the hotel or the venue first?

Usually the hotel. If you must go to the venue first, tell us before the day so we confirm the drop-off point with the organiser’s access plan.

What about Al Maktoum Airport?

It is close to Expo City but has limited commercial flights. By road, the trip is roughly 20 to 28 minutes. Check which airport your airline uses.

Are you the official GITEX transport provider?

No. We are not the organiser’s transport provider. The organiser runs its own shuttles, and we offer a private pre-booked vehicle as a separate choice.

Do you sell tickets for GITEX?

No. Register on the organiser’s own site, gitex.com. We supply the vehicle and the driver.

How do I get a price?

Ask for a fixed written quote through the booking page. It lists the vehicle, the route, the waiting time and the airport charges before you accept.
