A marathon start is the one appointment a group cannot be late for, and it falls at an hour when nothing else in the city is moving.

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon is listed by the organiser for Sunday 17 January 2027. A 10 km and a 4 km fun run are reported alongside the marathon, and the organiser’s site has a group category for clubs and teams. Be careful with third-party listings: some aggregator sites show 31 January, which does not match the organiser. Check dubaimarathon.org for the date, the start times, the course maps and the baggage rules.
Everything in your transport plan works backwards from one number: the time your earliest starter must be through the entrance. Take that time, subtract the walk from the drop-off, the security or bag-check queue, the warm-up your runners want, and a margin. The result is your hotel departure time. For most mass-participation races that works out as a very early start, and a coach is much easier than a convoy of cars.

Get a quoteA pre-dawn pickup is not a normal daytime booking. The driver needs a proper rest before it, the vehicle needs to be at the hotel on time with the engine running and the air conditioning set, and the hotel needs to know that forty people will come down to the lobby together in running kit.
Tell the hotel the night before. Ask whether breakfast opens early or whether a packed breakfast is available, because runners often want food at a fixed time. Ask where the coach may stand. Many Dubai hotels have a coach bay, and some of them are used for deliveries at that hour. We confirm the pickup point with the hotel when the booking is firm, and you confirm it with your runners.
This is an example of the method, not a schedule for your race. Replace the start time with the one in the organiser’s information pack.
| Step | Example timing | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Marathon start | Set by the organiser | Use the wave or pen time on your race pack |
| Be in the start area | Start minus about 45 to 60 minutes | Allows warm-up and a toilet queue |
| Drop-off and walk | Allow 15 to 25 minutes | Closed roads mean a walk from the drop-off |
| Coach leaves hotel | A margin before the above | Agree it with the group leader the night before |
| Lobby call | 10 minutes before departure | Roll call, then board together |
The organiser, not us, sets the drop-off area and any road closures. Ask them for the map, send it to us, and we plan the approach around it. We do not state closure times, because they change by year.
Runners carry less than other groups, but the numbers add up. Each person may bring a kit bag, a change of clothes, a post-race jacket and sometimes a foil blanket or a medal. Charity teams add banners, tops and a box of flags for supporters.
Most big races run a baggage service where runners hand in a bag before the start. Check the organiser’s rules on the size and the tag. If your group has no baggage service or wants to keep the bags with the vehicle, the coach can hold them in the luggage hold, but only if someone is there to look after the coach. Say in your request if you want the driver to wait at the drop-off or return later, because the answer changes the quote.
Runners, supporters and coaches sit on different clocks. A running club of 24 leaves at 04:30. The supporters in the same hotel might leave at 06:30 and want to see the group at the 30 km mark or the finish. Two timings, same destination area, one booking.
For the runners, the 30-seater mini coach suits a club of 20 to 30 with kit, and the 50-seater coach suits a school or corporate team. Smaller charity groups of 10 to 16 can use the Mercedes Sprinter or the 13-seater van. A V-Class suits a small group of up to 7, such as a coach and a few seeded runners. Pick by people and bags, and see the bus size guide if your numbers are uncertain.
The return is harder than the start. Runners come out of the finish area slowly, some need medical attention, some want to wait for friends, and not everyone finishes at the same time. A 4 hour runner and a 6 hour runner on the same coach means a long wait for the first one.
Plan the return in two ways. Either set a single return time late enough to cover the slowest expected finisher plus the walk back, or run two returns. The group leader decides, and the driver follows the time on the quote. A runner who finishes late should have the driver’s number and the vehicle’s registration, because a coach looks the same as the rest of the park.
The coach is not a medical service. If a runner needs help, use the organiser’s medical staff. Plan a short stop at the hotel for a shower and then the afternoon.
Most overseas groups arrive three to five days before a marathon, to rest and adjust to the heat and the time zone. In January the UK is 4 hours behind Dubai and the US east coast is 9 hours behind, and that matters more to a runner than to a sightseer.
Send flight numbers and we meet each party at the airport. If you want a short run along the coast or a pasta dinner away from the hotel, add it to the quote as a separate booking. Read the big group arrival guide for how a team of 30 clears the airport in a sensible time.
The marathon date falls on the reported last day of the Dubai Shopping Festival, so the hotels are busy. Book your vehicles early. Our Shopping Festival guide describes how group demand builds across the weeks. If your group wants a mall afternoon on race day, put it on the same quote as the finish. If you want an easy run route in the days before, see our Run Dubai guide for another fitness event.
Give us the race, the start time or wave, the hotel, the number of runners and of supporters, the number of kit bags, and if you want the driver to wait. If you have the organiser’s drop-off map, attach it. We reply with a fixed written quote in AED with the inclusions and waiting hours listed. Start on the booking page, and check the starting rates on the price page.
Pick by headcount and kit bags. We confirm the final choice on your written quote.
