Old Dubai’s doors, day by day.
A tour leader building an Old Dubai half day soon finds that the small museums and heritage houses do not all open on the same days. Friday is the thin one. This guide sets out what Dubai Culture printed about each site on 31 October 2026, shows it day by day, explains the free guided-tour request, and says what the pages do not tell you.

What Dubai Culture publishes
Dubai Culture, the authority that runs these sites, lists opening hours on its attraction pages. We read them on 31 October 2026, the same day the site footer says it was last updated. Hours and closures change, so check the venue’s current notice before fixing a time.
The Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is described as a quarter by Dubai Creek that shows life from the middle of the 19th century to the 1970s, with wind towers (barajeel). It is listed as open Monday to Sunday, 7am to 8pm. That is the one door in this list with no day off.
This page is about the doors and the days. It does not cover the souks or the abra crossing, which our Old Dubai half-day guide handles.

| Site | Hours as printed by Dubai Culture | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood | Monday to Sunday, 7am to 8pm | Open every day |
| Coffee Museum (Al Fahidi lanes) | Sunday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm | Closed Friday |
| Women’s Museum | Sunday to Thursday, 10am to 5:30pm | Closed Friday |
| Museum of the Poet Al Oqaili | Friday, 8am to 11:30am | Friday only, as printed |
| Majlis Ghorfat Umm Al Sheif (Jumeirah, not Al Fahidi) | Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm | Closed Saturday and Sunday |
| Heritage House | Listed as currently closed for renovation | No reopening date found |
| Al Ahmadiya School | Listed as currently under renovation | No reopening date found |
Dubai Culture gives no reason for the two renovation closures and no date for reopening, and we do not guess either. Treat both as closed until its page says otherwise.
Which doors, which day
This is our own reading of the printed hours. It is not a statement from Dubai Culture, so check the pages again before you travel.
| Day | Listed as open |
|---|---|
| Saturday | The neighbourhood only. The two small museums are not listed for Saturday, and Umm Al Sheif is closed |
| Sunday | The neighbourhood, the Coffee Museum and the Women’s Museum. Umm Al Sheif is closed |
| Monday to Thursday | The neighbourhood, the Coffee Museum, the Women’s Museum and Umm Al Sheif |
| Friday | The neighbourhood, Umm Al Sheif and the Al Oqaili museum in the morning. The Coffee and Women’s museums are closed |
So Friday is the thin day for Al Fahidi’s small museums, and a group that wants them should plan Sunday to Thursday. A Friday group still has the neighbourhood itself, and a morning visit to Al Oqaili if its listing is still current. We do not say that every site is open on Fridays, because they are not.
How to ask for a guided tour
Dubai Culture says free guided tours at its heritage sites are provided on request, during working hours. The online form asks for the type of booking, the number of visitors and the language. It says no documents are needed and that it answers in one working day. The same service text appears for the Hatta heritage site. We found no opening hours for Hatta on these pages, so we write none.
Send the request before you fix the day, because the answer will shape the time. We are not Dubai Culture’s transport provider, and we do not arrange its tours. Our driver is not a guide. If you want a licensed guide of your own, our guide on licensed guides explains the difference, and you can ask us about options when you request a quote.
A neighbour on the same lanes, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, lists enquiries from 8am to 8pm every day, with its Jumeirah Mosque programme every day except Friday. That has its own planning, set out in our Jumeirah Mosque guide.
How far it is
These are modelled drive times from our routing model, built on OpenStreetMap data (OSRM, run on 31 October 2026), with no traffic and no stops. The end point is a map point in the neighbourhood, not a gate.
| From | Distance | Modelled drive time, no traffic |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Airport (DXB) | About 20.0 km | About 32 minutes |
| Deira | About 6.2 km | About 9 minutes |
| Downtown Dubai | About 9.6 km | About 11 minutes |
| Dubai Marina | About 31.9 km | About 31 minutes |
| Dubai Frame | About 5.5 km | About 8 minutes |
| Al Shindagha | About 2.0 km | About 3 minutes |
Allow more at busy hours and on public holidays. We found nothing on streets closed to coaches in the neighbourhood, and nothing on a coach stop, so we cannot promise one. We agree a drop-off point and a collection point with you.
Planning the day
Here is an example sum, not a promise. A group staying in Downtown Dubai, about 11 modelled minutes away, plans a Wednesday visit. The neighbourhood is open from 7am, and the Coffee Museum from 9am, so a 9:30 arrival works for both. Allow a margin for the walk between doors, set one meeting time and place with the group in writing, and plan the vehicle to wait at the agreed point. The two small museums close at 5pm and 5:30pm, so leave them last only if the group is quick. For hot months, our heat and daylight guide helps with the timing.
The tour leader’s own sheet helps here too. Our tour leader briefing sheet lists the points to settle before the day.
Choosing the vehicle
Count passengers first and bags second. A walking day means day bags, water and sometimes a pushchair. Our guide figures:
- Mercedes V-Class: up to 7 passengers and 6 bags.
- 13-seater HiAce: up to 13 passengers and about 10 suitcases.
- Mercedes Sprinter: up to 16 passengers and up to 12 suitcases.
- 30-seater mini coach and 50-seater coach for school groups and tour parties.
How a booked vehicle fits
- Send the plan. Date, hotel area, party size and the sites you want to visit.
- Ask for a fixed written quote. Nothing is charged until you confirm.
- Read the pick-up and drop-off arrangement. The quote states it, and we update it if the plan changes.
- Agree the return time. We plan the margin and tell you what is not yet published.
- Tell us if plans change. We adjust a quote if the date changes, and we cannot promise to beat traffic.

What are the Al Fahidi neighbourhood hours?
Dubai Culture lists Monday to Sunday, 7am to 8pm. Check the venue’s current notice before fixing a time.
Are Heritage House and Al Ahmadiya School open?
Dubai Culture lists Heritage House as closed for renovation and Al Ahmadiya School as under renovation. We found no reopening date and no reason.
How do we ask for a guided tour?
Dubai Culture has an online form for heritage sites. It asks for the type of booking, number of visitors and language, and says it answers in one working day. It says tours are free on request during working hours.
Is the Hatta heritage site covered?
The tour request text is the same for Hatta. We found no Hatta opening hours on these pages, so we cannot give any.
Can a coach stop in the neighbourhood?
We found no published coach stop and no lane closures for coaches. We agree a drop-off point and a collection point with you and cannot promise a stop at a particular spot.
How far is it from my hotel?
Our model with no traffic gives about 9 minutes from Deira, about 11 from Downtown Dubai, about 31 from Dubai Marina and about 32 from Dubai Airport. Add time at busy hours.
