What JBR is like for a coach

Jumeirah Beach Residence, known as JBR, is a row of residential towers and hotels facing the sea, with a pedestrian promenade running between the buildings and the beach. The roads around it are one-way in places, and the hotels and apartments have a mix of forecourts, small lay-bys and underground car parks. This is not the easiest area for a full-size coach.

The point is not that coaches cannot go to JBR. They do. The point is that the drop point at the specific hotel decides the plan, so we ask for the hotel name early.

Getting there from DXB

DXB is on the Deira side of the city, and JBR is along the coast beyond Dubai Marina’s northern edge. Outside the rush hours the drive is about 30 to 45 minutes. At the weekday morning and evening peaks, plan on longer, and on a weekend evening the roads near the beach can be slow with people heading out.

Hotel access: mini coach or full-size coach

Beachfront hotels vary. Some have a forecourt that takes a mini coach, and a few take a full-size coach. Others have a low entrance, a narrow driveway or a taxi-only forecourt. In those cases the vehicle stops on the road or in a nearby lay-by, and the group walks the last stretch with the luggage on trolleys.

Ask the hotel which entrance suits a vehicle of a given height and whether they have a coach bay. If they do not know, send us the hotel name and we plan around it. A mini coach reaches more forecourts than a 50-seater, and for a group of 31 to 40 we sometimes suggest two smaller vehicles to get into a tighter entrance.

Evening patterns on the beachfront

JBR is busy in the evening. Visitors walk the promenade, cars queue for the car parks, and the area around the main road can be slow from late afternoon into the night, particularly on weekend evenings. A group arriving at 6 pm on a weekend should plan for a slow last kilometre.

If you have a choice, a late-night or early-morning landing means a clear road. If not, the driver sets the stop for the quickest safe drop and unloads the bags in one go. Tell your group not to wait for the whole group to cross the road at once, and have the leader count heads at the kerb before the coach moves on.

Vehicle choice for a JBR group

These are starting day rates for up to 10 hours with driver and fuel. A one-way airport transfer is quoted as its own line, and the written quote confirms the exact price for your date, route and hours.

Luggage and a beach holiday

Beach groups carry beach bags, strollers, sports equipment and bigger cases than a business group. The hold of a 50-seater takes about one medium suitcase per passenger, so a full coach of beach holidaymakers may overflow. Tell us the bag count, and if there are strollers, golf bags or other oversize items, say so.

Hotels often let guests store luggage before check-in. If the flight lands in the morning, ask the hotel about early check-in or storage. Rooms are often ready later in the afternoon.

An example: 18 guests, a 9 am landing

Eighteen guests land at 09:00 on a Saturday. They are out of the airport by about 10:45 and a mini coach leaves for JBR. The road is moderate, the drive about 40 minutes, and the group is at the hotel by 11:30. Rooms are not ready, so the luggage goes into storage and the group walks to the promenade for lunch. At 15:00 the hotel confirms rooms. The driver unloads in one go and leaves with a written record of the drop time.
