DXB to Abu Dhabi, one vehicle, one run.
Plenty of visitors land in Dubai and sleep in Abu Dhabi. The drive is one long run on one road, with no change of vehicle. Here is how that single transfer is planned, from the flight number to the hotel lobby.

One vehicle from arrivals to the lobby
Most guides to Abu Dhabi start in Abu Dhabi. This one starts in Dubai: you land at Dubai International, your hotel is somewhere in Abu Dhabi city, on Saadiyat or on Yas Island, and you need to know how the first night will go.
The plan is simple. You send the flight number. We track it, so an early landing or a late one moves the pick-up. The driver waits in the public arrivals hall with a name board, takes you to the vehicle a short walk away and drives to the hotel. Nobody changes vehicle at a bus station and nobody queues for a taxi after a long flight. Our guide to meeting your driver at DXB shows where each terminal’s meeting point is.
This page is about the one-way run in this direction. If you are asking about a day out and back for meetings, read the same-day Dubai to Abu Dhabi business trip page instead. For the other direction, from the Abu Dhabi airport to a Dubai hotel, see Dubai to Abu Dhabi Airport.

Get a quoteThe road, and how long it takes
Almost the whole journey is the E11 motorway, with the E311 running parallel further inland when the E11 is slow around Jebel Ali. The driver picks the better one on the day.
| Run | Distance | Time we plan with |
|---|---|---|
| Central Dubai to Abu Dhabi city | Roughly 140 to 150 km | About 1 hour 30 to 2 hours |
| DXB to Yas Island | About 128 km, an estimate | Approximately 75 to 90 minutes |
| DXB to a hotel on Saadiyat Island | Tell us the hotel | Confirmed in your written quote |
The Yas figures come from a routing engine set to free-flow, so treat them as the quiet-road case. Yas Island itself quotes 75 minutes from DXB, and our Dubai to Yas Island page gives about 1 hour 30 from the Deira and DXB area. We have no published drive time to Saadiyat from the airport, so we do not print one. Tell us the hotel and we confirm the time in your written quote.
Weekday mornings on Sheikh Zayed Road can add 30 minutes or more, and a trip that took 90 minutes in the morning can take over two hours in the late afternoon. We build that into the pick-up time instead of leaving it to luck.
Landing time is not leaving time
The clock does not start when the wheels touch down. As a rough guide, allow 30 to 60 minutes from landing to walking out of customs, and longer in the busiest waves of the night. A group of 30 or more should plan for 60 to 90 minutes from landing to the vehicle, because it leaves the hall as a stream and not as one block.
You do not need to message the driver when you land. The flight is tracked and the driver already knows. If something slows you down, such as a missing bag, tell us and we plan around it.
Landing in the small hours? Many hotels do not hand over rooms until the afternoon. Ask the hotel for early check-in or bag storage before you fly and get the answer in writing. If it says no, you can book the vehicle for the day so the luggage stays on board. Our Dubai airport transfer page explains the options.
Tolls and what goes on the quote
Salik gates apply on the Dubai side. On the E11, the Ghantoot Darb gate has charged around the clock since 4 May 2026, according to the transport authority. You never pay either at a gate. The tolls are listed on your written quote before you confirm, and the Salik and Darb guide explains both systems.
The run to Abu Dhabi is an intercity journey, so it is quoted for your date, route and waiting, and not taken from a Dubai day rate. Ask for a fixed written quote. It lists the vehicle, the tolls, the airport parking and the waiting allowance.
Choosing the vehicle by people and bags
Size the vehicle on whichever runs out first, seats or suitcases. The seat and bag counts below are for medium suitcases.
| Group | Vehicle | Seats and bags |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 7 | Mercedes V-Class | 7 seats, 6 bags |
| 8 to 13 | 13-seater van | 13 seats, 10 bags |
| 14 to 16 | Mercedes Sprinter | 16 seats, 12 bags |
| 17 to 30 | 30-seater mini coach | 22 to 30 seats, 20 bags |
| 31 to 50 | 50-seater coach | 50 seats, 50 bags |
One to three travellers with suitcases are well looked after in the executive sedan. Child seats are free on request in our cars, SUVs and vans. For coaches, give us the age of the youngest child and we confirm in writing what we can arrange.
Fly into Abu Dhabi instead?
Some groups find a better fare or connection into Zayed International Airport, which is Abu Dhabi’s own airport. If your hotel is on Yas Island, it is 10 to 15 minutes away, according to Yas Island’s pages. Compare the flights, then compare the ground leg. If you land in Dubai, the transfer on this page is the way to do it. If you land at Zayed International, our Abu Dhabi transfers page covers that end.
What to send us
- The flight number, or every flight if the group is split, and the terminal if you know it.
- The hotel’s full name and its area. Abu Dhabi has several hotels with similar names.
- The number of people and a count of checked bags, plus prams, golf bags or instruments.
- A group leader’s name and a mobile number that works in the UAE.
Use the booking page. A fixed written quote comes back, usually within the hour, and nothing is charged until you accept.

Frequently asked.
Quick answers for this trip.
How long is the drive from Dubai Airport to Abu Dhabi?
Abu Dhabi city is roughly 140 to 150 km from central Dubai and the drive takes about 1 hour 30 to 2 hours. Yas Island is approximately 75 to 90 minutes from DXB in quiet traffic. Tell us your hotel and we confirm the time in your written quote.
Do I change vehicles on the way?
No. One vehicle and one driver take you from the arrivals hall to the hotel. For larger groups the luggage can ride in a separate vehicle that leaves with you.
Will the driver track my flight?
Yes. We track every flight, so an early or late landing moves the pick-up. You do not need to message the driver when you land.
Are the tolls included?
The Salik and Darb tolls on your route are listed on the written quote before you confirm. Nothing is added on the day.
Can we go to a hotel in Dubai first and Abu Dhabi later?
Yes. Send both addresses and the times. A stop at a Dubai hotel to drop bags adds a leg, and your quote shows it. See our hotel group transfers page for how multi-stop plans are written up.
How far ahead should I book?
For cars and vans, 24 hours is usually enough. For coaches, or any arrival between October and April, book two weeks or more ahead so the vehicle sizes are confirmed in writing.
Is a taxi from the airport an option?
For one or two people with light bags, a taxi from the rank works. For a longer intercity run, our Dubai to Abu Dhabi taxi cost guide compares the choices. Ask us for a fixed written quote and set it beside the other options.
Do you sell hotel rooms or tickets?
No. We provide the vehicle and the driver. You book your own hotel and any tickets.
