How far is Dubai Airport from your hotel?
DXB sits next to the old centre of the city, so the answer depends on the district. These are the drive times we plan with for each area, the margin to add in the rush hours and the cases where the Metro helps.

From DXB to each hotel area
All times are by road, outside the rush hours, and they are planning figures, not promises. Where one of our pages gives a distance in kilometres, it is in the table. Where none does, we leave it blank instead of guessing.
| Hotel area | By road from DXB | Distance |
|---|---|---|
| Deira, Bur Dubai and Al Garhoud | Often 5 to 15 minutes | |
| Business Bay and the canal | Around 15 to 25 minutes | |
| Downtown Dubai | Around 15 to 25 minutes | About 15 to 20 km |
| DIFC and Sheikh Zayed Road | Around 20 to 30 minutes | |
| Jumeirah, Al Safa and Al Barsha | Around 25 to 35 minutes | |
| Dubai Marina and JBR | Around 35 to 45 minutes | |
| Palm Jumeirah, including Atlantis | Around 35 to 45 minutes | About 40 km |
| Dubai World Trade Centre | Around 20 to 30 minutes | |
| Expo City Dubai | Approximately 35 to 50 minutes |
Our pages disagree by a few minutes on one row: DIFC sits inside the Downtown 15 to 25 minute band on some and the 20 to 30 band on others. The longer figure is the safer one for a flight. The routes are on our DXB to Downtown Dubai and DXB to Palm Jumeirah pages.

Get a quoteFurther out: Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah
Abu Dhabi city is roughly 140 to 150 km from central Dubai, about 1 hour 30 to 2 hours. From DXB to Yas Island is approximately 75 to 90 minutes, about 128 km by road, as an estimate. DXB to Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah is around 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Those are intercity trips. Our Abu Dhabi and intercity transfers page covers them. For a hotel in any other emirate, tell us the hotel and we confirm the time in your written quote.
The rush hours change the answer
The same trip can take double the time in a bad hour. For Downtown, the figures on our route page are:
- Early morning and midday: around 15 to 25 minutes.
- Weekday morning peak, roughly 7 am to 9:30 am: allow 30 to 45 minutes.
- Weekday evening, from about 4:30 pm until around 8 pm: allow 40 minutes to an hour, sometimes more.
- After 10 pm: around 15 to 20 minutes.
For the Palm, plan on an hour or more in the weekday peaks if Sheikh Zayed Road is backed up. For the Marina and JBR, rush hour on Sheikh Zayed Road and the Creek crossings can add a good deal more. We build that margin into the pick-up time instead of leaving it to luck.
Landing at Al Maktoum instead
Dubai has a second airport, Al Maktoum International (DWC), in Dubai South. It is around 60 km from DXB. It handles far fewer passenger flights, so check the airport code on every ticket. A mix-up costs the best part of an hour. The table below is from DWC, outside the rush hours.
| From DWC to | Distance | Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Expo City Dubai | About 10 km | 10 to 15 minutes |
| Dubai Marina, JBR and JLT | 30 to 35 km | 30 to 40 minutes |
| Palm Jumeirah | About 40 km | 40 to 55 minutes |
| Downtown Dubai and DIFC | 50 to 55 km | 40 to 55 minutes |
| Deira and DXB | About 60 km | 45 minutes to an hour |
Heading into the city in the morning, or anywhere along Sheikh Zayed Road from late afternoon, add 20 to 30 minutes and sometimes more. See Al Maktoum airport transfers for the full route list.
Terminals and the Metro
DXB has three terminals. Terminal 2, used mainly by flydubai and some regional airlines, is on the far side of the airfield, around 15 to 20 minutes by road from Terminals 1 and 3. If someone is meeting you, tell them the terminal.
The Red Line of the Metro stops at Terminals 1 and 3 and not at Terminal 2. Allow about half an hour to the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station and about an hour to the Marina area, then add the walk. Trains start early in the morning and finish around midnight on most days. RTA limits the number and size of bags, so the Metro suits a carry-on and one medium case. Our guide to getting from Dubai Airport to your hotel compares every option.
Going back to the airport
Add the airline’s check-in margin, which is around three hours before an international flight. Our route pages suggest a pick-up around three and a half to four hours before departure for Downtown, and around four hours for the Palm. The driver is at the hotel ten minutes early. For groups, the desks take longer, as big group arrival at DXB explains for the other direction.
Distance is not the same as effort
A 50-seater cannot always get under a hotel canopy, and some resort entrances sit behind a gate. If a coach has to stop in a side bay, the driver tells your group leader before anyone steps off, and the bags come out in one go. Give us the full hotel name and area. Several Dubai hotels have near-identical names in different districts.
We match the vehicle to the people and the bags, from the Mercedes V-Class for seven to the 50-seater coach. Ask for a fixed written quote through the booking page.
