Ten or more, on the train.
Etihad Rail runs passenger trains in the UAE, and a party of ten or more books differently from a single traveller. Its help page sets out a request form, a three-week lead time and strict boarding times. This guide gives those rules in plain order for an overseas organiser, says what is not published, and shows where a private vehicle covers the stretches the train does not.

What Etihad Rail says about groups
Etihad Rail’s help page defines a group booking as more than nine passengers on the same route, on the same date and the same train. So the group rules start at ten. A party of nine books as individuals.
A group asks through a form, which is offered in the Etihad Rail app, on its website and through its Contact Centre. The operator says its team replies within seven working days, and that the quote it sends is valid for 48 hours. The form must reach it at least three weeks before travel. That three-week rule belongs to the group form. It is not a rule for single tickets.
On seating, the operator says it will do its best to seat a group together, subject to availability. A request to book a whole train is reviewed case by case. So are changes, cancellations and refunds for groups. These are Etihad Rail’s terms and not ours. We run no trains and sell no train tickets, so book the seats with the operator.

This table follows the operator’s help page and Passenger Charter as we read them on 31 October 2026. Check the operator’s notices before you book, since rules can change.
| Question | What Etihad Rail says |
|---|---|
| Who is a group? | More than 9 passengers, same route, date and train |
| How do we ask? | Form in the app, on the website or via the Contact Centre |
| How early? | At least 3 weeks before travel |
| How long for a reply? | Within 7 working days |
| How long is the quote valid? | 48 hours |
| Will we sit together? | The operator says it does its best, subject to availability |
| When must we be at the station? | At least 10 minutes before departure. Gates close 2 minutes before. No re-entry to the departure area on the same ticket |
| What do we need to board? | A valid ticket held before boarding, and valid ID that matches the name on the ticket |
| Which stations? | Each ticket is valid only for the stations on the booking. Four stations are open: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah and Al Dhaid |
| Do schedules change? | They may vary in Ramadan, at weekends and on public holidays |
We found no timetable or journey time we could read. The operator’s pages are built with scripts, so look at the live schedule before you plan.
Working the three weeks backwards
Here is an example sum, labelled as an example. A group of 14 wants to travel on Tuesday 12 January 2027. Three weeks before that is Tuesday 22 December 2026, which is the latest day the form can reach the operator. But a reply can take up to seven working days, and the quote then lasts 48 hours. If the reply takes the full seven working days, the quote would reach you around the new year, with only two days to say yes.
So send the form well before the last day. If the date matters, ask for the train first and book the rest around it.
Names, ID and boarding day
The operator says each traveller needs a valid ticket and valid ID that matches the name on it. For a group, that is a reason to build the passenger list from passports and not from a nickname list. Our passenger manifest template shows one way to keep names and numbers in order.
The operator’s minimum is to be at the station 10 minutes before departure, and the gates close 2 minutes before. For a party of 25 with bags, the minimum is not a plan. Allow a margin well beyond 10 minutes. That is our advice and not a rule. Anyone who leaves the departure area cannot go back in on the same ticket, so settle lunch and toilet stops before you pass the gates.
The Dubai station is listed by the operator at Jumeirah Golf Estates, open daily from 05:00 to 23:00. We carried those details from an earlier check on 29 October 2026, so confirm them with the operator. Our Etihad Rail Dubai Station to your hotel guide has the drive times from the station to the main hotel areas.
Luggage, read before you send the form
The Passenger Charter allows two items per passenger free of charge, on any ticket. A carry-on can be up to 55 cm high, 40 cm wide and 23 cm deep. Passengers must be able to carry and lift their own bags. The charter lists oversized or bulky luggage, large luggage, boxes, musical instruments and sports equipment such as golf clubs and skis as not permitted. It gives no maximum size for a checked-style suitcase, so we cannot say whether a large case is accepted. Ask when you send the form.
Our suitcase guide shows what fits in each of our vehicles, and a road run is one answer for the bulky items.
Where a private vehicle fits
The train covers the stations. A vehicle covers the rest: hotel to station before the train, station to hotel after it, and any stop between. The operator’s help page says its rebooking promise does not cover taxis, e-hailing, the Metro, buses or shuttles. So the road leg is your own plan, and a late train needs a plan for the driver as well. Tell us your train number and arrival time, and tell us as early as you can if they change.
If the trip is Dubai to Abu Dhabi and back in one day, our same-day business trip page and our train or private vehicle comparison show how a day is built around each choice.
The public bus as another route
RTA holiday notices for Eid Al Fitr 2026 and the Prophet’s Birthday 2026 say that bus E100 from Al Ghubaiba did not run on those holidays, and that E101 from Ibn Battuta Bus Station to Abu Dhabi was the alternative. We could not find a timetable or a journey time for either, so we give none.
Choosing the vehicle
Count passengers first, then bags. Our guide figures:
- Mercedes V-Class: up to 7 passengers and 6 bags.
- 13-seater HiAce: up to 13 passengers and about 10 suitcases.
- Mercedes Sprinter: up to 16 passengers and up to 12 suitcases.
- 30-seater mini coach and 50-seater coach for larger parties.
How a booked vehicle fits
- Ask Etihad Rail first. Send its group form, then send us the train times it gives you.
- Ask for a fixed written quote. Nothing is charged until you confirm.
- Read the pick-up and drop-off arrangement. The quote states it, and we update it if the operator’s notices change.
- Agree the times. We plan the margin before the gates close and tell you what is not yet published.
- Tell us if plans change. We adjust where we can, and cannot promise to beat traffic.
