A Dubai stopover tour that fits between two flights

Dubai is one of the world’s busiest connecting airports, and plenty of travellers spend six, eight or twelve hours at DXB between flights. With the right planning, a good part of that can be spent in the city.

On a private Dubai stopover tour, your own driver meets you at arrivals, takes you to the places you most want to see and brings you back to the right terminal on time. No coach to catch, no strangers to wait for, and no guessing about traffic. The driver keeps an eye on the clock so you don’t have to.

Prices depend on the date and group size. Get yours in a minute.

First, check you can leave the airport

Leaving the airport means passing through immigration. If you can do that depends on your passport and your visa situation, and the rules change, so check with your airline and the official UAE immigration sources before you book anything.

Two practical points matter too. If your bags are checked through to your final destination, you only need your hand luggage, which can stay in the car while you sightsee. And most airlines ask you to be back and checked in at least three hours before an international departure. Check your own airline’s rule, because that time comes off your tour.

How long a layover you need

A simple way to plan: take your layover time, subtract about an hour for arriving, immigration and getting to the car, then subtract three hours for the return. What is left is your tour.

LayoverTime in the city, aboutWhat fits
Under 6 hoursNot enoughStay airside and rest
7 to 8 hours3 to 4 hoursOne area: Downtown and the Dubai Mall, or Old Dubai and the Creek
9 to 11 hours5 to 7 hoursOld Dubai in the morning, Downtown and the Palm in the afternoon
12 hours or more8 hours or moreA full city day, or a slower tour with a proper lunch or dinner

Traffic matters. DXB is close to Deira and Downtown, but Dubai Marina and the Palm are 40 minutes or more away at busy times. We plan the route so the farthest stop comes first and the airport is the easy drive at the end.

Suggested routes

Short tour, about 3 to 4 hours: Old Dubai first, because it is ten minutes from the airport. Al Fahidi’s old houses, an abra ride across the Creek for one dirham or so, and a walk through the spice and gold souks. Then Downtown for the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall before heading back.

Longer tour, 5 to 7 hours: add the Museum of the Future from the outside, a drive down Sheikh Zayed Road, the Palm Jumeirah and a stop at Jumeirah Mosque or Kite Beach. A lunch or dinner stop fits easily.

Night layover: Dubai is easy after dark. The Dubai Fountain shows run in the evening, the Marina is lit up, and the roads are quieter. Many stopover tours work best between 19:00 and midnight.

Attraction tickets, such as the Burj Khalifa observation deck, are booked by you. Book a timed slot ahead, because walk-up queues can eat half your layover.

Choosing the vehicle

One or two travellers usually take an executive sedan. Three or four with hand luggage fit a luxury SUV. Families and small groups, or anyone with bags that didn’t get checked through, travel well in a Mercedes V-Class. A team of colleagues on the same layover can share a 13-seater van.

What it costs

A stopover tour is booked by the hour from the moment we meet you to the drop-off at departures. The quote shows the vehicle, the hours and parking at the airport, so there are no surprises at the end. For reference, our full-day rates within Dubai start from AED 950 for an executive sedan, AED 1,100 for a luxury SUV and AED 1,150 for a V-Class.

Example: two travellers, an 8-hour layover, a 4-hour tour in a sedan. The quote covers the meet and greet, four hours with the driver and the drop-off at departures.

If you only need a ride into town and back, our Dubai airport transfer page covers one-way and return trips, and hourly chauffeur hire covers longer days.

How the meet works

Send us your arrival flight number. The driver tracks it, so an early or late landing is not a problem. After immigration and customs, you are met in the arrivals hall with a name sign. Our DXB arrivals pick-up guide explains exactly where.

At the end, the driver drops you at the departures level of the terminal your next flight leaves from. Tell us the departure flight too, so the timings are built around it from the start.

Booking

Send both flight numbers, the number of travellers and what you would like to see through the booking form, or message us on WhatsApp at +971 54 126 1681. We reply with a plan and a written quote. For the sights themselves, our private Dubai city tour guide has more ideas for a longer stay.

Frequently asked.

Quick answers for this trip.

How long a layover do I need for a Dubai stopover tour?

At least seven hours. That leaves about three hours in the city after immigration and the three hours most airlines want before an international departure.

Can I leave the airport during a layover in Dubai?

It depends on your passport and visa situation. Check with your airline and the official UAE immigration sources before you plan a tour.

What about my luggage?

Checked bags that go through to your final destination stay with the airline. Hand luggage can stay in the vehicle while you visit each stop.

What if my flight lands late?

The driver tracks your flight, so a delay doesn’t lose you the booking. If the delay cuts into your tour time, we shorten the route so you are still back on time.

What can I see in four hours?

Old Dubai and the Creek, then the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall from outside, is a comfortable four-hour route from DXB.

Is a night stopover tour worth it?

Yes. The city is lit up, the roads are quieter and the Dubai Fountain shows run in the evening. Many travellers prefer it.

Do you include tickets?

No. We provide the vehicle and driver. Book attraction tickets yourself, ideally with a timed slot.
